Catching-Up: Part II

I wrote a couple of things for 619Sports.net during the month of October and... let's see... where are they?

Oh here we go: the first one was called "I'm not with stupid, I AM stupid!"

What's it about? It was a mish-mash of stuff including my viewing habits during Chargers games, Jimmy Carter/Norv Turner analogies, and a piece called "Cautionary Tales in Jersey Purchases". Incidentally, I've stopped wearing my jerseys and have switched to something else. I'm superstitious.

The second piece at 619 was called "Good Morning. I Hate You!"

This was a "getting back to your roots" piece where we re-examined our hate for the New England Patriots. It was written before the Chargers played the Patriots on October 24th, 2010.

I went to the game that afternoon and it was one of the worst played games I've ever attended or watched for that matter. The Chargers and the Pats both sucked it up and at halftime I thought there was a very real possibility that I would be leaving the game early. The 4th quarter however turned for the better. The ending not so much.

Go read it and reflect on your hatred.

Opinion: Patriot fanhood and step one in the, "I Have A Dream, Charger Fans!" saga

Word on the street says that the New England Patriots/Baltimore Ravens clash is technically a sellout but there will be blocks of empty seats throughout the stadium. Season ticket holders chose not to purchase playoff seats and brokers have failed to move their surplus of seats. As to the accuracy of this rumor, we must wait until kickoff this morning.

The fact that this is even a story is redemptive in my opinion. All you'll ever hear from Patriot fans in person or trolls on the message boards is that they "ARE REAL FANS", and they "ALWAYS" sell out Gillette Stadium. You'll hear them chide San Diego because our Wildcard game from the 2007 season against the Titans failed to sellout because......boohoo....... it was raining (and if I remember correctly, the Chargers did a poor job of notifying the public that there were available seats........although San Diegans are afraid of rain, so it could have just been that).

It's also worth mentioning that many say, "The Team of the Decade", didn't get tons of fans until their first Super Bowl victory after the 2001 season. Are New Englanders jumping off the wagon because of Wes Welker's knee explosion? We shall see/I hope so.....

Regardless of how crappy Patriot fans really are, it matters not. In order for the Dream to be fulfilled we need the Patriots to knock off the Ravens today. Go Patriots!!??!!

Godspeed N.C.

For a small dose of what it means to be a Real Patriot, try picking up your pen (keyboard) and petitioning your government with your grievances. It might amaze you. Perhaps it will not completely alleviate injustice or obviate all wrongs but it is a start and that is always what matters most.

There are those in "Bizarro World" (Foxborough, Sharon, et. al.) who would have you believe that the prerequisites for being a Patriot are to wear American Flag bandannas as head dress.....to tattoo the "Pat the Patriot" logo* on one's shoulder blade.....and finally....to actually be a fan of the New England Patriots. We of sound mind know this to be untrue. We are all Patriots especially when we confront our government (btw-be very careful when you decide to adorn your scalp with ol' glory...there are more respectful places to hang it).

This notion of being a Real Patriot is all the more prescient when you consider the November elections just over the horizon. Write those letters and make demands...it's what a Real Patriot would do.

Godspeed Christopher!

* Pat the Patriot is the old school logo..you know....the one where the grizzled minuteman has a grimace on his face as though he just dropped a deuce....or if you prefer...he's in agonizing pain because he had the ol' two hole destroyed! Speaking of Minutemen.....the Minutemen were Massachusetts Militia not New England Militia.....I bet those good ol' rebels would be turning in their graves at the sight of Rhode Island, New Hampshire and the rest of 'em getting credit for battling on a minute's notice. Bring back the "Boston" Patriots for God Sakes! The ones the Bolts beat for the 1963 AFL Championship.....what was the score of that one chowdah heads?
