Upholding An Ideal: The Chivalrous Defense Of Brett Fav-ruh

I'm not a Photoshop guy....imagine it says Vikings

Fortuitous timing and all, with the Vikes and Brett Favre squaring off against his former lover, the Green Bay Packers. Below you will find a text message transcript between myself and The Fav-ruh-pologist from last Sunday. I was in the car and heard on the radio that the Vikings rally had just stalled out and they looked like they were going to drop one at home to the 49ers....so I started talking trash. Obviously I texted too soon because Favre had one of his most grand prayers ever, answered in dramatic fashion. The below exchanges may seem extraordinarily mundane but I found them funny on two counts:
  1. The dedication that one fan could have towards a player over a team (keeping in mind that The Fav-ruh-pologist has followed Favre from one team to the next).
  2. The shear volume and length of texts in response to such innocuous statements.....I hope his texting plan is cheap.
Without further adieu:
What Happened to your boy?
(an innocent query)
Shut Up and go talk shit to someone else :)
People like you are the reason I continue to defend him. You are a hater. I've asked you to join me, and you sat back waiting for a moment to criticize and you forgot that there was still time left on the clock. Shame on you for lying in wait to attack a holy man. You should go to church and repent. GO VIKINGS AND GOD BLESS BRETT FAVRE!!!!!
(Favre=Messiah? Favre-ssiah!)
I haven't seen a response...kinda quiet huh? Oh I get it. It's game time for the Chargers. Time for next installment. I hope it turns out ok today. Good Luck! By the way it's Favre 2, AP 1. Hmmm.
(relax I can't type a message that fast...and I'm driving)
Another thing...I think I owe you a thank you for speaking too early. I thought it was over. It's the superstitiousness in me. So thanks.
(that's a valuable scrabble word)
That was vintage Favre...wing and a prayer
(Time to ramp it up! I have now given the angry bear a real good poke)
Whatever hater. Last second passes have to be right there. Did you watch the SuperBowl??? I suppose everything is on a wing and a prayer if you don't have all the talent the Chargers do. Go hate somewhere else. It was vintage Favre, you are right though. All the work leading up to the final pass was probably just him getting lucky. He would never get any true credit for what he brings to that team. Just go back to watching your DUMB team with all the other SD haters and idiots. 3-0 feels good. Just so ya know.
(the Chargers are not DUMB....they are BAD)
Glad to see the true Viking fans being rewarded.....you one of those?
(additional pokes and prods)
Keep grasping hater. I am defending an ideal. Not a normal situation for me, I concede, but I have stood by my point of view from start to finish with full conviction. I did for a brief time appreciate your semi unbiased sports point of view. I now see I was way off. You are just like everyone else. You want to look for a reason to take swipes at him. It's called player hating and it annoys. I have always given the Chargers the credit they DESERVE. I even admire a few players a bit. Your point of view is getting as old as everyone else. Just keep putting out your high quality opinions about the Padre colors and important stuff like that. And just try to leave the subject of Brett Favre alone for real blog sites.
(Following Brett Favre to the end of the Earth is not the pursuit of an ideal.....it is sedition in the eyes of all Packer fans. Blog sites are inherently crap and none are really 'real'. Really.)
'Real blog sites' are much more critical of your boy. I've actually given you the opportunity to voice the Favre point of view.
(what I meant to say---Fuck Yea I'm biased and I didn't mean "the Favre" point of view. It should have read Brett Fav-ruh point of view)

Don't worry, I'm not going to sit here and make you defend what YOU believe in. And I have read all the other blogs too. Once you filter through the idiots, there are some educated points of view. Some good and some bad for sure. But you and the surplus of other haters out there make it seem like that. Just keep up your good work.
Just admit you tried to talk shit too early and it will all stop. I'm not trying to be a hater. I'm just a little defensive as you can see. You aren't the only one sending me texts.
(I hope the Vikings get it handed to 'em tonight.....just so I can continue to poke the bear)

I'm still in awe with the velocity at which each one of these texts flew into my message box last week. Let's see what happens tonight.

Go PACK

Brett Favre: Rational Viking Fan View

This is an excerpt from Big Daddy Drew's post over at Kissing Suzy Kolber. He is a Viking Fan.....guess what kind?
"......That was fun. And I’m crazy excited for the press conference later today, when he explains that he changed his mind when really, he didn’t want to bother to do things like get into shape or learn the playbook. BUT THAT’S BRETT FAVRE FOR YOU. HE JUST LOVES THE GAME TOO DAMN MUCH.

YOU MASSIVE SHITBURGLAR. NOW I HAVE TO SPEND A WHOLE GODDAMN YEAR PRETENDING TO WISH YOU WELL WHEN, IN FACT, I HOPE YOU FALL OFF YOUR PORCH AND HAVE YOUR THROAT SLASHED BY A BEER BOTTLE. I FUCKING HATE YOU, YOU FUCK." [Read More]

Brett Favre: The Packer Nativist View

DJ NAKED: Straight outta Wisconsin
Stop the press......

All of the negative Favre news stems from the hick media in WI, which took the Ted
Thompson side of the story. I don't view this as Favre vs Packers, I view this as Favre vs
Ted Thompson. You have to look deeper into the problem to find out the truth. Hating Favre
because of how he's portrayed in the news is the same exact thing as loving Katy Perry or
Justin Timberlake because MTV and the radio tells us to.

At the surface, Favre looks like a wishy washy lil' bitch. I have to admit, I think it's pathetic
how
he's handled the situation. Would I be a Vikings fan???---we'll get to that in a bit.

First, let's talk about the real problem, Ted Thompson. His ego gets in the way of his
judgment.
Favre is not the first player to clash with him. Mike McKenzie, Javon Walker,
and a few others
couldn't get along with him. So what happened??? They were on the next
flight out of town.
Thompson puts personal feelings ahead of common sense when making
business decisions. His
strategy for building a team is idiotic.

Look at any playoff team that suddenly wins the championship the following year.... Lakers
last
season, Bulls the year after Jordan's comeback, Patriots, Packers 1996, Yankees, Miami
Heat with Shaq, and so on and so forth.....

How do they do it??? They built the best team possible for their situation at that time, they
did
not build for the future. Building for the future only makes you a really good playoff
team, it
won't make you a championship team. Ted Thompson doesn't get that. He doesn't
actively
search out the best players for the team.... he plays it safe, too safe.

Let's think back three and a half years. Packers came off a bad season. They needed some-
thing.
Randy Moss was in the market for a trade from the Raiders. Packers could have got
him for a
3rd round pick, true story. What happens????? Thompson passed on the
opportunity. The
result??? Favre has one of the best seasons of his career, and single-
handedly gets the team to
the NFC championship where they lose in overtime. Randy Moss
goes to the Patriots, and all
kinds of records were broken up until their loss in the
SuperBowl. If Thompson would have
followed though on the Moss deal, the Packers would
have been unstoppable that season. They
would have beat the Giants in the NFC
championship, and the
Patriots wouldn't have even made it to the SuperBowl.

Within a couple weeks of the loss, Thompson was pressuring Favre for a decision about
retirement. Favre didn't know, and made the wrong decision. When he wanted to come back,
they said he could, but he'd be a back up. Favre said he was willing to compete for the job.
They
wouldn't let him. Favre said release or trade me. They said only to an AFC team,
"to protect
your legacy." Come ON!!! They were protecting themselves, not his legacy.... He
is still better
than Aaron Rodgers, Rodgers is good, but he's not the same. Thompson told
the only 3 time
NFL MVP in history and most likely the greatest quarterback ever to f... off.
What an idiot!!!

I hate how Favre has handled this situation though. Basically he isn't 100% sure if he wants
to
play, he is trying to get back at Thompson. He also doesn't like training camp much, so if
he
does come back still, then that's why he's doing it like this. I'm not saying I agree with that
or
like him doing that, but whatever. You should hate Thompson, not Favre.

Now let's talk about being a Vikings fan. I kind of started liking the Vikings 2 years back how
I
kind of like the Chargers. Why? They have an exciting game changing player in Peterson, like
the Chargers have LT. How can you not like Peterson??? If you add the fact that I hate
Thompson and how the Packers never make any moves to better themselves outside of the
draft,
I find it hard to support the Pack. Why support a team that won't support itself!? It
would be
easy to be a Vikings fan if Favre was there, not out of spite, but because they would
be exciting
to watch and they'd have two of my favorite players on the team.

SO......Please don't write about how Favre is some kind of giant d-bag.... even if he handled the
situation that way, there is more to it than that. Everyone has already covered that. You'll be
just like the radio saying how Britney Spears is good .....when the rest of us know better. I
challenge you to write an anti-Thompson story, but not a pro-Favre story or anti-Packer
story.

As for your friend who wants a Favre jersey.... who wears jerseys if they aren't in a
rap video???

FYI: most people here DO believe everything they hear in the news..... so most Pack fans hate
Favre. On the other hand, I think most people in
WI are f...ing wierdos.

Brett Favre: The "My Dad Indoctrinated Me To Root For Green Bay While Living in California" View

The FAV-RUH-POLOGIST

Once a year now for the last few years, historians and FAITHful followers from all over, anxiously await the announcement from the enclave in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Believers and non-believers gather in hopes of witnessing the white smoke rising from the chimney of our new Messiah. Will BRETT FAVRE return to football? Is HE really going to lead the crusade back to the Holy Lands of Green Bay? Could the believers be right again?

GOD, The SON, The HOLY SPIRIT and BRETT FAVRE.

Is HE about to rise up once again, this time from HIS yearlong crucifixion and complete death in the AFC East. After being sacrificed so the Pack could move on. After being betrayed by Ted Thompson (Pontius Pilate) and Mike McCarthy (Judas). It was business. I get it. Time to be done with HIM and move forward. But Judgment day is coming. A reckoning if you will. It is time to pass judgment on those who have sinned... If HIS resurrection is true, then HE will be having HIS "Last Supper" with his disciples in the NFC North.

At this time He will reveal himself to not only the believers this time, but to ALL non-believers as well. I have always believed in HIM. This story has to be true. Disney nor the Apostles of old could write a better script. Admit it. Now is your chance to take that "leap of faith" everyone. Get on the bus to the clouds while you can, because once it is written...it will be too late.

McCarthy and Thompson will burn at the stake for sure. Don't be left out. There is still time. The Vikings ARE a great football team with or without FAVRE. That is fact. They are not going to ask him to do what Green Bay and the Jets asked him to do. They are not asking HIM to perform miracles and carry entire teams on HIS back, to throw balls 150 yards 50 times a game. "Prove you are the Messiah", they said. "Show us the miracles first", they said. They did not truly have faith.

The Vikings, however, truly believe in HIM. This type of "blind faith" WILL lead to salvation.

If the story is true, "BRETT FAVRE and VIKINGS WIN SUPERBOWL", then our faith in HIM will be seen as Truth. Brett Favre being known as the ONE, true "Greatest Quarterback of All Time" will be historical fact.

BRETT FAVRE'S concern for HIS own "legacy" has never been an issue for HIM. People question HIS faith and loyalty to the almighty Pack. He always believed in them. Had "faith" in them. He always wanted to be with them. HE, will eventually be worshipped by all in Green Bay as well. No offense, [----REDACTED----]. BRETT FAVRE had no choice but to find another team and then another. They called HIM a heretic for what HE was saying and what HE was doing. But HE was just trying to have faith in himself. Faith in Truth. What HE has a chance to do now is to truly be the "The Greatest".

Maybe one day people will stop speaking HIS great name in such blasphemy, and just sit long enough to think for a minute about what they are accusing HIM of; and instead begin to appreciate and SEE what HE truly brings to football. GO VIKINGS and GOD BLESS BRETT FAVRE! LONG LIVE #4.
