Charger Fan In Donkey Land: Week 3 Dolphins

Here we go again.

Another week with LT injured, and Merriman a non factor due to his groin injury.

We lean on .43 cent and Mr. English to step up for our two injured warriors.

.43 stepped up as expected, but our running game was dismal in not only the first half, but the entire game.

Was pleased to see the D step up after the first drive when they allowed the Dolphins to get down to the one.....which resulted in the Bolts winning the lottery with the fumble out of the back of the end zone. They seemed to stabilize as the former Enterprise Rent a Car Associate Nwagbuo showed up today and filled in reasonably well for Jamal.

We saw the offense opening up as expected with the injuries we have encountered early on. Seeing Malcom Floyd get the 46 yrd catch down the middle followed up on the following possession by the 50+ yrd catch by Vincent Jackson was what we can expect over the next few weeks. Let's not forget about Gates who had his fair share of catches today for a good amount of yrds. Also liked the screen to Naanee, and the fun with .43 tossing the ball back to Rivers for the completion to Gates.

Again today we had to witness the field goals vs. the touchdowns. Can not continue this lack of scoring. On top of that Nate can not be missing any, especially a 41 yarder to end the half and give us the lead.

Next week we will need the Defense to again step up big and we cannot settle for field goals. The Steelers will put up a fight on their home field, but as we have seen over the last two weeks they are not the Super Bowl team of '08 and their defense has shown that they have holes we can exploit with our passing game.

Sunday Night Football is the prime time for us to show our real colors.

Have a great week all, in preparation for our Sunday Night Showdown.
Go BOLTS!

Editor's Note:
  • I'll choose to refer to Nwagbuo as Photo Unavailable rather than the Former Enterprise Rent A Car associate. Not a dig on the Spartan alum but more on the site administrators that can't seem to round up a head-shot. C'mon now!
  • A win is a win....but I'm not bespectacled with the rose tinted variety like my compadre, the CFIDL. I'm still digesting...

12 In A Row: San Diego Chargers 24 Hapless Raiders 20

The Bolts have no linemen left. LT (hurt his ankle?) didn't play during crunch time. Richard Seymour showed up yesterday, met his teammates and dominated the Chargers' O-Line. No discernible pressure on the Phunky Phat Quarterback.

We do have .43 cent......and at least we won.

I wonder if anyone was pissed about the Chargers coming out on top?

More Mike Scifers run....from 4th and Long

It is a wonder that it can even be pronounced. The combination of consonants and vowels flows off the tongue like so much peanut butter.
Scifres. Yet as strange as a combination of seemingly disparate letters, they equate to a beautiful combination of balance, power and timing which takes form on... Fourth and Long.
I love and hate that we are noticing a punter for what he does spectacularly. Mike Scifres certainly is one of the leagues best and should be known as such. He puts enough force through a football to maim a puma with enough precision to escape a mongoose. Yet I would like to point out that he is (close to) top of our sport because he performs the way we saw on Saturday (6 punts for 52.7 average punt, all 6 downed inside the 20), EVERY WEEK.

Do you want to know why he isn't in the Pro Bowl? Because he is 8th in the league in gross average and 3rd in the league in net average. What does that mean to the non punteresque individual? Punters in the NFL are getting better and better, in fact, most of them are now freaks. These guys are the same as every other NFL athlete--99.9th percentile. Go look at the bios of every punter in the league and look how many were All-Americans in something in high school or played another position in college. Just about every one. Ponder that next time you want to disparage a 32 yard shank. Punting is like driving a golf ball. Yet imagine this. You are tossed your Titelist prior to hitting it, must tee it up out of hand and then perform the proper technique to hit it over 320 yards.... Oh by the way, do this in 1.3 seconds or less and with guys sprinting at you who run 4.3 40's.... Oh and by the way again, put it on the green... every... time....

Defensive Player of the Year...would make a punter shit himself...
I step down off my soap box...

Although our punter here in San Diego is phenomenal, was stellar on Saturday, and will continue to be outstanding, so too are the other 31 guys doing it. Don't even get me started on place kickers. He has and will continue to help us win games, cause that just what he do. Small numbers, big responsibilities.

4th and Long

Until next time.. E'ry body gitcha Sprole on.....

Secondary Thoughts on Wild Card Victory

Chargers 23 Colts 17
"SAY ELLO TO MY LIL FREN !"

Our Little Pocket Rocket came up HUGE (I saw a commenter at KSK refer to him as .43 cent) and redeemed himself after a devastating fumble near the end of the 3rd quarter. He threw the Bolts up on his back and went out in Walk off TD style...

...and King Philip overcame a horrible interception early in the 4th Quarter to lead us on a game tying FG drive to end the game and then the game winner in OT. Philip was not without his terrible looking "throw away passes", or his sometimes under thrown passes but when it was all said and done he LED the team to victory.

For those who are not fans of Philip Rivers: take note of how awkward he looks when he runs: he is about 11 months post ACL reconstruction surgery and he is not the most athletic guy: but when the Chargers needed a 1st down, he scrambled, ran (term used loosely), called positioning on a Sproles block, deftly snuck around the end, dove, miraculously sailed head first, bounced knee off of turf, and got us a 1st down down. It was awesome! One of those moments where you say you are proud that he plays for your city.

We mentioned little keys to the game like rushing attack (because Colt D is small and it keeps Manning off the field) which showed we were spot on with our analysis. Then there was, positive turnover differential, which we were terribly wrong about---TWO turnovers in the end zone...

What were we most correct about? Us amateur armchair QBs....

SUPERSTITIONS of course...

  1. Facial Hair was rocking
  2. Baby clutching Power Towel throughout
Check!...Check!...

What of our other beliefs?

3. Voodoo in play....The Manning de Milo
4. Dynamic Sage Duo...H.H. The Dalai Lama and Ms. Alba

Check!...Check!...

Playoff Hockey Beards...Dirty undies during a winning streak...HTP's inane beliefs...

DO NOT FUCK WITH WINNING COMBINATIONS PEOPLE!

Our next Voodoo Doll? Roethlisberger or Collins? Oh, the joy, that is arts & crap time! Alas, we are committed!

Our final thoughts on an epic game that made me want to throw a remote through TV and shit myself in disbelief....
.....everything that went wrong for us early in the year, changed last night. We got all of the breaks. Penalty calls when we needed them and 1 sack...when we really needed it. It was great to have such good fortune....and a punter who is a GOD!!

I WILL THRASH YOUR BALLS
