Mike Hampton was really good....once

It seems like so long ago that Mike Hampton was really good.....or at least had a good season.

Here he is tonight pitching against the Padres wearing an Astros uniform and I can't for the life of me remember who Mike Hampton was good for.

I remember Hampton being a good hitter and at one time thinking he was good enough to go to Colorado and have success. I remember him hitting a bunch of home runs and stints with both the Mets and the Braves.....I think he was really good during a previous tour with the Houston Astros.

And then it is revealed by Channel 4 when they give a trivia question regarding the Padres magical 1998 playoff run: Which Astros pitcher faced Kevin Brown in his 16 strikeout performance?
A. Mike Hampton
B. Randy Johnson (Brown edged The Big Goonit)
C. Can't remember who else/doesn't matter/Hampton quandary solved

So it was the Astros.....so long ago.....

Baseball Reference
Hampton was a part of that '98 'Stros squad, had a PHENOMENAL 1999 season, was dealt to the Mets where he helped them get to the WS and it's been downhill ever since. In 15 seasons this guy sure has broke the bank for averaging less than 10 wins a year. Look at his crappy numbers this year......

Of course he's shutting down the Friars right now and he wrapped a pretty solid double over Scott Hairston's head.

Good times.
