The Marquis, Wells, and Ohlendorf Revival

Yesterday I cleverly quipped:

Sure, those guys dropped the last three games in the Reds series but is my assessment of the Padres' patchwork rotation indicative of how the fellas actually pitched? Let's look . . .

I am looking at Jason Marquis' game logs as a Padre. Yes, yes. I see. Jason Marquis has been pretty good in pitchers' parks and quite terrible in hitters' park. Yes. Re-up for 2013. Begin pitching on three days rest to get full value. Re-acquire Chris Young to throw road starts. Re-acquire Brian Lawrence when Chris Young's shoulder blows. Re-acquire a Jason-Marquis-type when Brian Lawrence's pitching performances make Padres fans laugh. Push big red self destruct button if it comes to this.

I am looking at Kip Wells' game logs as a Padre. Alright. Uh, huh. Strange. He's been quite lovely on the road and terrible within the friendly confines of PETCO Park. Alright. Re-up for 2013 and adjust starts accordingly to properly reflect his love of Jack Kerouac and the road.

I am looking at Ross Ohlendorf's game logs as a Padre. Oh, so he's still 29? Re-up for 2013 and put him on the Ballast Point cart on the concourse behind the plate on days after his starts. Let him do the Karl Strauss cart the day after that. Let him sign autographs for beer patrons while in uniform. He must sign autographs as Kevin Jarvis and then alternate every, every other autograph as Kevin Pickford. If he's called on it he must laugh and sign the autograph again. This time as Brandon Villafuerte.

What the fuck am I doing? What a blogging shit-show this has devolved into without the Padres being televised.

  1. Kip Wells just got DFA'd and Stults is back in the rotation. At least now we have two lefties in the rotation again. After that 6 run second, Ohlendorf may be next, with Cashner back by the end of the month. If either Bass or Stauffer can return, Marquis may not last through September. Whew! For awhile there, 2013 wasn't looking good.

Incidentally, does Marquis in profile look a little like Nevin, or am I imagining things?
